Finished my first session with the new therapist (after having to leave prior one due to my out of state move) and it went great!
Still was exhausting tho! And I need sushi!

Considering getting on Threads just so I can find friends there to nudge into federating so I can be mutuals via my Mastodon account. (Also, glad I didn’t bet on which non-Masto service would federate with ActivityPub first … I would’ve bet on Bluesky)
Some days I wonder if human beings would be better off if we’d never even learned to write shit down
I only just got around to checking out this Halo show and whaddya know Ricky Falcone/Pornstache is Master Chief
I don’t know why it took me until today to realize the Tasty Bite meals I sometimes have for lunch are even better with a squeeze of lime (!)
Brain: “I’m just gonna lie down a second to pick a podcast for my morning exercise”
(900 seconds later…)
I take back any negative vibes I was emoting re wordpress.com support – they got back to me within four days, not just with a message, but to tell me they’d fixed it! Thanks, Automattic! <3
Trying not ignore ongoing tech layoff news—but it still crosses my path & my amygdala perks up like (raspy mugwump voice) “you ain’t safe, pal, nobody’s safe”—which yeah there’s truth to that, but I need to find a more rational spot on the scale between “doom” and “all’s well”
Wow I thought I hallucinated this as a child but it’s real Butch Cassidy (TV series) - Wikipedia
Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kids
If you think there is something wrong with eating lemon curd straight out of the jar with a tiny spoon you can fuck right off
The thing about a show like True Detective Night Country is you have to keep Shazam open on your phone the entirety of every episode
Apple Vision Pro is a powerful prototype for something to come in the future. When it gets to be the size of say, a monocle, I’ll be more interested in having one. I do think there is a lot of promise in the AR-3D-ification of software, for a lot of use cases that could be good for people.
Honestly I take back everything negative I said about ST Discovery post season 2 … I just finished season 4 and it was good medicine. (Even with the ridiculous flame-and-spark spewing on the bridge.)
“In tonight’s performance of The American Civil War, the part of South Carolina will be performed by Texas”
Nothing like pounding some bread, meat, and sugar* for lunch to set your brain up for a productive afternoon! /s
(*an amazing sandwich from next door with a coke)
Currently watching an episode of Discovery with scenes that feel like a better than usual HR training video but where they also get stoned on alien love dust together so …
Curry night 🤤
It is so frustrating to miraculously have several hours of no meetings when you want to really get into some deep solo work, only for your brain to tap out like “nah son, I’m fried, you ain’t gettin’ shit”
A few days ago, I wrote in to Wordpress-dot-com’s support address asking for help fixing my busted site (some DNS weirdness or something prevents me from editing it) and I haven’t heard back yet. Anybody know of a better way to get customer support? Or does it just take that long?
Ok so I decided to give Discovery s4 another shot, and damn if it isn’t just fine? Kinda digging it?

y’all I know Xitter is bad but there are still moments of real beauty
Last night I finally decided sure why not get BG3? But then discovered it needs 150 Gigs! – which my M2 Macbook Air does not have to spare :-(
TIL character actor Michael Shannon sings in an REM cover band that is currently touring specifically to perform the album “Murmur” — which I find delightfully niche & unexpected.

Taco Tuesday is great but have you ever had a Taco Monday 🌮
Anyway I’m rewatching the Bakshi LOTR and my goodness there are many very specific moments Jackson lifted (in homage?) wholesale
“All shall love me and despair” — Tolkien’s line is such a powerfully human way to express what totalitarian leadership must feel like
(LOTR: Said by Galadriel when considering what she might become if she took the ring)
tfw you wake up feeling like you must’ve slept really well but then 30 minutes later you’re pretty sure you did not
“I watched some of that show but didn’t like it — so I’d like to remove it from my Continue Watching queue” is a use case that has clearly never occurred to most streaming app product teams.
Currently searching for a new therapist—ideally with lived experience and expertise in neurodivergence—and realizing I’m narrowing the list partly with a preference for practitioners who seem more awkward in their photos.
At Labcorp for a blood test. Small rooms. No air filtration, no masks on anyone but me. Good thing not many sick people come here! /s
“Sorry I couldn’t hear what you said I have an earworm-song and 2.5 imaginary conversations buzzing in my head that are insisting you take a number”

I was able to look at Instagram again for about 10 minutes without it triggering* grief or anxiety or regret…that’ll do for this week!
(*there are reasons for this I understand and many I do not, but the nature of that space has always been complicated for me)
I miss “BatLabels” on the other site :-(
Layoffs are often wielded as a kind of necromancy that alchemically converts mass human suffering & trauma into shareholder profits.
Yesterday was one year since my layoff. I feel so grateful for my good fortune that it only lasted a few months—but wow were those months awful. And I am so sorry so many are still being abused this way by their employers.
I could’ve sworn I tried watching Elementary long ago and didn’t like it but it turns out I have never seen it and it is really fun.
Also in the first ten minutes, I noticed a copy of Schneier’s “On Security” on Sherlock’s bookshelf — nice.
My basic gripe with time is that it is nonconsensual. Just does what it wants. Doesn’t ask permission. What an asshole.
Some days, brain is like “there is not enough coffee in the world to wake me up, deal with it”
I’ve recently found a desire to connect with some communities & activities that use Discord and subsequently I have overstepped my threshold of “communication channels I have to keep up with”
NPR sponsor tagline: “Making the fairytale workplace a reality”
Me, aloud in my car: “Have you read a Grimm’s fairy tale!?!“
Wife and me watching True Detective, where a cop unlocks a phone using a corpse’s face.
Me: “supposedly that doesn’t work?”
Her: “wanna try it out?”
💀 😛
It’s homemade stirfry night!
First Starship Troopers viewing in 20+ yrs & if you doubt Verhoeven is commenting on fascism, here’s a scene where the white recruits are in gray uniforms as one of them is playing Dixie on a fiddle, while the Black recruit is shirtless like a field hand.
If only the tenacity with which my left psoas muscle locks itself and refuses to release could somehow translate into my brain’s tenacity for getting stuff done, I wouldn’t mind it so much.
Adam West’s Batman as Neuroqueer Hero in this thesis I shall …
I finished a Rings of Power rewatch last nightt while folding laundry. Once I decided to think of it as “family-friendly Game of Thrones” (vs “faithful rendering of Tolkien’s notebooks”) it was quite enjoyable! Even with the many flaws, I find Tolkien-based content esp comforting for some reason.
“12° F (Feels like 1°)”
Yes, weather app. That sounds about right… as I observe my dog trying to find a place to poop in the frozen snow … good thing he’s wearing the little booties & parka he hates!
(nb: it is objectively adorable to watch him march in those booties tho)
TIL autocorrect doesn’t know “interoception” is a word
Welp I ended up bailing before my first Roll20 TTRPG experience because I realized it’s Friday night and after a work week, the last thing I want is meet awkwardly over video chat trying to collaborate on something I don’t understand yet.
Yes, exactly, because that’s my day job.
Maybe later!
Celebrating a good annual review with some bibimbap delivery. And trying a game of D&D on Roll20 tonight (first TTRPG I’ve played in 15+ years!)
I just read this post about hyper-verbal behaviors and autism and holy shit
thinkingautismguide.com/2019/07/b…
We are doing a GoT rewatch, and it strikes me now that I wish Tywin Lannister had been one of the point-of-view characters in the books, because his decisions really drive so much of the arc of the whole cycle, would have been nice to know his internal life & motivations better.
Wow some days when my #adhd meds wear off the drop is realllly precipitous. Most of my day was fine but now I’m barely able to string a sentence together.
I don’t like thinking about airplane disasters so I’m telling myself a “door plug” is just the weed delivery guy
Well the new episode of If Books Could Kill is gonna be a treat.
I hear heroin is great but have you ever decided to wait until morning to take out the trash?
The past is never past. It’s just waiting to reconnect to you online.
This morning I had a dream I was on a wooden boat that was making loud creaking sounds — then I woke to realize it was the sound my sinuses were making when I breathed.
Makin crepes … some with preserves, some with lemon curd.
My brain suddenly decided it’s headcanon that there is a cover of Exile’s “I Wanna Kiss You All Over” (1974) done in the style of Depeche Mode, and now somebody has to make this happen.
“Then we’re stupid and we’l die.”
Each time I see Blare Runner, I feel compelled to think about this quote for a few days after.
Rewatching Blade Runner (1982) tonight and what’s so striking this time is what genius the lighting is in every single frame. Which of course it is because Deakins duh. Bur also … there is Lots of Color. It’s used deftly, but richly. It’s not the washed out gray haze so much scifi is now.
Our first real snow day of the year. There’s something very comforting about the sound of snow plows scraping the roads outside. Like we are safe and being looked after.
One of the things I miss about being a kid: even with all the structured time for school etc, it still seemed effortless to call a friend or go by their house and just hang out whenever. As an adult with supposedly more autonomy, it’s hard to even find a time for a Zoom chat.
As usual I’m like 5 years behind all trendy anything, but I just had bucatini for the first time, and it’s pretty yummy … really nice “tooth feel” … I guess the little hole through it gives it a different sort of sponginess than a regular fat spaghetti?
Just scored a ticket to see Bill Frisell down the street from us this February. Woot! 🎸
In case anyone here knows — if you had the latest Moderna booster, can you also get the Novavax booster (X) months later? (If so, how many months? )
Seems to me more than just artificial-human experiences are entering “the uncanny valley” … search results, customer support, product reviews, articles, emails, and more — all part of the social human environment, but increasingly artificially generated in a way that feels nauseatingly “off”.
So I’ve been checking out this Davinci’s Demons show and it’s pretty fun actually … Sort of a Sherlock meets MacGyver but extruded through Game of Thrones?
I wish our educational systems (schools, corporate training, etc.) prioritized teaching about cognitive biases, and how they warp our perception & behaviors. If more people could understand & internalize those lessons, think of how much better everything humans do together could be.
I’ve been learning more about neurodivergent social masking. The more I reconsider a lot of my past experience, and present neuroses, it’s making a lot of sense as a core driver of those issues for me. Especially as an adoptee with a narcissist parent: had to learn to mask from the start.
